Manwe by grzegoszwu Manwe by grzegoszwu
My vision of Manwe, the King of the Valar, husband of Varda Elentári, brother of the Dark Lord Melkor, and King of Arda. He lived atop Mount Taniquetil, the highest mountain of the world, in the halls of Ilmarin. The winds and airs were his servants, and he was lord of air, wind, and clouds in Arda. He was the noblest and greatest in authority, but not in power, of the Aratar and Ainur.

I'm just curious ... did you intend to paint what ended up as this awesome portrayal of Manwe, Or did you intend to paint Azog at first ?
Sherlock Holmes ... cuz I see some anatomical similarities. :) (Smile)

Well, the date on the work could be misleading. You should remember, that the Hobbit movie was released in december, and every image and concept art was top secret before the premiere. Besides, the original concept of Manwe is a lot older than the Hobbit movie, by the way, with all admiration for The Lord of The Rings movie trilogy I despise the Hobbit movies, which excludes any inspirations from the Hobbit movie in my works, You can be sure of that. Thanks for the acclaim anyway :)

... Oh, I kinda thought of the same thing with the dates and all, but it could have been possible. So I figured ... why not ask about it ?!
Anyways, since that's the case, that makes your image of Manwe even better, in my opinion!

I must agree ... unfortunately The Hobbit doesn't even come close to The Lord of The Rings, but it does make for a nice watch (for me at least), and I enjoy that I get to see some more of the characters from LoTR.
... and ... and Azog rules, though ! =P (Razz)

Astonishing!!! He has a very "titanic" look, humanoid and elemental... very good indeed!

He seems a little sterner than I imagine him but this is a pretty neat rendition nonetheless. :) Maybe in 2043 when the copyright on The Silmarillion runs out we'll get to see visual representation of such an awesome mythopeia. :)
